Department: Machine Shop

Primary function: Performs preventative and routine maintenance on both facility equipment and production machinery. Set-up and operate all metal working machinery common to a tool room/machine shop environment; required to perform production and repair/improve machinery operations. Notify Supervisor when supplies need to be ordered. Perform production jobs when necessary.

Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain building with regards to its structure and utilities to include but are not limited to basic electrical, basic plumbing, carpentry, lighting, flooring, building proper and grounds.
  • Perform routine maintenance on production machinery as deemed necessary using a formal P.M. schedule. To include lubrication, visual inspections, safety issues/hazards, update and replacement of normal worn parts, routine adjustments and general cleaning of equipment.
  • Ability to trouble shoot mechanical, pneumatics and electrical malfunctions.
  • Design and install improvements deemed viable to both machinery and building proper.
  • Machines production parts to specifications.
  • Machines and assembles jigs and fixtures used to assist and improve production processes.
  • Plans and determines setup procedures and operating sequences best suited for nature of operations machine and size of work piece.
  • Maintains production tooling and machinery.
  • Sets up and changes over machines processing multiple products.
  • Develops and/or updates manufacturing specifications for the machining operations required.
  • Assists in machinery, equipment, and facility repairs.
  • Helps maintain tooling, necessary repair parts, hardware inventory and supply inventory associated with the performance of the P.M. program. Notifies supervisor when supplies need to be replenished.

KNOW-HOW:

  • High school or vocational school training with trades training providing a broad working knowledge in mechanical, electrical, building maintenance, machining technology and machinist trade skill applications or related job experience.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical principles, pneumatics, speed/feed ratios, and blueprints.
  • Basic understanding of the principles of electricity.
  • At lease three year’s experience of applied machine shop experience OR we will consider training the right individual & accommodate school hours thru an apprenticeship program.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Basic plumbing and Pneumatics knowledge, welding capabilities, basic electrical knowledge as to principles of electricity and its associated equipment
  • Ability to read schematics and blueprints
  • Basic knowledge and ability to effectively operate mills, lathes, drill presses, tool grinder, pedestal grinders, band saws, torch, welder, table and radial arm saws, jointer, thickness planer, and a variety of power and regular hand tools.
  • Skilled using a wide variety of measuring and inspection instruments including the ability to use/read a caliper, micrometer & dial indicator
  • Ability to read a ruler to 1/32”
  • Must possess good communication skills in the English language including written, verbal and listening

Primary Function: Lays out, bores, fills, and trims brush patterns on wood, plastic, or any other materials necessary to manufacture brushes according to specifications.  Set up staplers, drawing fixtures, trimmers, and power equipment.

Reports to: Production Supervisor

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Meets standard production rates.
  • Sets up and operates staplers, hand drawing tools, trimmers, table saws, radial arm saws, band saws, and any other equipment necessary.
  • Performs or obtains quality checks on each operational step before proceeding to the next step.  Reports any quality issues to the production supervisor immediately.
  • Lays out bores, fills, and trims brush patterns according to production order specifications.
  • Performs routine maintenance\inspections on equipment and reports deficiencies to the production supervisor.
  • Completes necessary paperwork for each production order.
  • Keeps work area clean and safe.  Returns all tooling and fixtures to appropriate storage locations.
  • Follows all safety policies.
  • Delivers product to specified area upon completion.
  • Assists in training and guidance for new department members.
  • Be trained to use a torch.
  • May need to help out in other departments on occasion.

Know-how:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of basic shop math.
  • Experience with using a variety of small hand and power tools.
  • Ability to read a tape measure to 1\32 of an inch.
  • Able to use and read an analog and digital caliper as well as other measuring tools.
